“Azithromycin is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, such as:
• Infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, including otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngotonsillitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia; caused, among others, by S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae and parainfluenzae, and B. catarrhalis.
• Skin and soft tissue infections caused by, among others, S. aureus, E. coli, Klebsiella spp., B. fragilis, and Enterobacter spp.
• Sexually transmitted diseases: azithromycin is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated genital infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. It is also indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated genital infections caused by non-multidrug-resistant strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (given the recommended dosage for these conditions, concomitant infections with Treponema pallidum must be eliminated).”
